FYI: watching for 729 would help catch a majority of Israeli products by default, but keep an eye out and research products anyways, they might use other codes. Companies can simply not use GS1 barcode standards and instead buy a barcode from an authorized reseller for significantly cheaper, and this is perfectly legal and does not necessarily travel back to where your company is headquartered. This causes restrictions, but with jews being how they are, they can probably bypass all or most of these restrictions anyways.

So an Israeli company could potentially completely obfuscate the fact that they're Israeli by manufacturing the product in a different country, having at least one office in a different country that *distributes* the goods, and purchasing barcodes from resellers. Or licensing to use official gs1 numbers in a different country from the origin nation, which is also a thing that happens.

We already see this, but much less inconspicuously and less outwardly malicious. If I buy a Pepsi here in spain, there is absolutely 0 information that tells me definitively that the company is american. The business address is for PepsiCo Europe, the GS1 number is for Spain, and usually the product itself is made in spain as well (there's a fairly large bottling facility near Madrid). If I had no idea what pepsi was, I wouldn't have a single way of figuring out that it's american and not european based on the packaging. Of course, pepsi makes no effort to hide the fact that it is in fact american, and everyone knows that it is. Hence the difference and why this isn't something they do clandestinely.

Also, a side note, they don't really export much, but palestinian goods usually use 729 as well because neither gaza nor the west bank are GS1 members. Not that it's really much of a concern, just pointing it out.
