(This post is in response to a post about a couple that's on government welfare for housing, food, and other services)
Frequently I have not heard of conservatives just talk to these kinds of people and explain how their welfare is funded by taxpayers and about how much better their life could be if they were self-sufficient instead
As a kind of "activism", conservatives could just find people on "government programs" and try to creatively coordinate with them to get them off the programs
("Why do it": I suppose conservatives could also make money doing this if they needed that incentive to do it, but also taxes could be reduced over time if this kind of outreach was successful enough)
If this is done enough, no one will want the programs because they're not dependent on them and the programs will collapse
Has anyone seen anyone have success with this kind of approach?
Tips for helping people transition from dependency to more self-reliance?
Other ideas along these lines to improve the situation?
(The nice thing about this kind of "activism" is it wouldn't really require voting for people that are out of our control and so on, it's kind of an example of "direct action" to help individuals and communities)
Some literally do not know how to get out of it, and so we have a skill issue.
Others have become dependent on it and consider working as a downgrade in payment. It is so easy to get aid now that if you get one thing, you quality for almost everything else. Old numbers I encountered underscored that getting all aid you can is equivalent to 70k+, thus, such a person would have to gain a sizable salary to live the exact same level of comfort. (these are decades old numbers).
Then there are cultural factors: beliefs, values, and attitudes that thether them to government aid. Good luck unraveling that.
The list is quite extensive, so finding a cure-all solution would be impossible while a personalized solution would work. The key is to firmly understand their reasoning for remaining.
