The Incident: On June 28, 2020, hundreds of racial justice protesters marched toward the home of the city's mayor. The march passed through the McCloskeys' private gated neighborhood.

Mark and Patricia McCloskey, a St. Louis couple, were charged with felony unlawful use of a weapon after brandishing firearms at Black Lives Matter protesters outside their mansion on June 28, 2020

The Actions: Mark McCloskey emerged holding a semi-automatic rifle, and Patricia McCloskey pointed a handgun at the passing crowd. No shots were fired.

The Charges: Circuit Attorney Kimberly Gardner charged the couple with felony unlawful use of a weapon. They were later indicted by a grand jury.The Resolution: In June 2021, the couple pleaded guilty to reduced misdemeanor charges. Mark pleaded guilty to fourth-degree assault (fined $750) and Patricia pleaded guilty to harassment (fined $2,000).

Pardon and Expungement: Missouri Governor Mike Parson pardoned the couple in August 2021, and a judge later ordered their criminal records expunged in 2024.
