It's true though. The closed loop chiller systems run a 50/50 glycol mix, unless they're stupid. Glycol (anti freeze) raises the boiling point of the water it's mixed with. So less of it evaporates in a cooling tower. Also, many of these data centers use dry coolers which further prevents evaporation of water. The main concern for the water loss would be from the power plants. Which boil water to turn steam turbines.


Also, now that there's hysteria about water, the industry is starting to look more at DX cooling. Which is more refrigeration.
