Liquor, like wine, is its own animal.

I'm a former alcoholic and have gone up and down the gamut. A nice merlot with a beef stew is just *chef's kiss* ... regardless ... most liquors have no sublety until you mix it. Gin is rather complex and can taste like gasoline if it's cheap and if you just raw-dog it, but adds so much to a drink when it's a decent quality and mixed properly. Scotch and water, to thin it to about 15% ABV, has a beautiful smokiness.

Beer is best poured ... and some of the beers I've had from across the globe come from the Germanic countries. *gasp* ... go figure... but I had a nice oatmeal stout from a country pub in England near Warwick Castle ... you just can't beat local craft from a person that cares.

Yeah, even with the mainstream brands, a beer is never better than when it's poured. I like beer because you can drink more and pace yourself. Plus, like you said, you don't have think about blending/ mixing anything in the right ratios. Beer is just less complicated.
