**Verdict: misleading.** It combines a genuine proposed oil transaction with a false delivery claim and an unsupported conclusion about Israel controlling U.S. policy.

* **Maduro’s capture is real.** U.S. forces seized him in Caracas on January 3, 2026; he is now detained in Brooklyn awaiting trial. [Reuters](https://www.reuters.com/world/americas/venezuelas-maduro-asserts-immunity-urges-us-judge-dismiss-charges-2026-09-02/)

* **A Venezuelan-oil cargo really was scheduled for Bazan.** February reports said approximately 200,000 barrels aboard the *Poliegos* were intended for Bazan’s Haifa refinery—the first such transaction reported since 2020. It was apparently marketed through commodity trader Vitol under the new U.S.-controlled export arrangements. [Bloomberg report reproduced by gCaptain](https://gcaptain.com/venezuela-ships-first-crude-cargo-to-israel-as-oil-exports-reopen/)

* **But the oil did not “start flowing” into Bazan.** The *Poliegos* reached Israeli waters in March but departed for Greece without unloading. Ship tracking showed the Venezuelan Merey crude remained aboard, apparently because refinery units were shut during the Iran conflict. [Argus Media](https://www.argusmedia.com/en/news-and-insights/latest-market-news/2798283-venezuelan-crude-cargo-leaves-israel-without-unloading)

* **The August 28 post is therefore especially deceptive.** It resurrected February’s planned shipment while omitting the March report showing that the delivery never occurred.

* **The broader oil flow primarily benefited the United States, not Israel.** In July, the U.S. received approximately 786,000 barrels per day—about 68% of Venezuela’s 1.16-million-barrel daily exports. India received 178,000 and Europe 82,200 barrels per day. [Reuters](https://www.reuters.com/business/energy/venezuelas-oil-exports-fell-slightly-july-cargoes-us-rose-2026-08-03/)

* **The photograph is AI-generated.** It belongs to the viral collection depicting Maduro being escorted around an airfield. Investigators detected Google’s SynthID watermark throughout every image in that collection. Genuine photographs showed him in different clothing and circumstances. There is strong evidence that gaining leverage over Venezuelan oil was an important U.S. objective: only days after the capture, Washington announced arrangements redirecting tens of millions of barrels toward American ports. [Reuters](https://www.reuters.com/business/energy/venezuela-us-talks-export-venezuelan-oil-us-sources-say-2026-01-06/) But this particular episode does **not** demonstrate that America captured Maduro “for Israel.” The post’s central factual premise—Israel receiving that shipment—is wrong.
