If you hit economic rock bottom, getting a CDL is basically the get out of jail free card that people pretend the military still is. Go OTR and get free housing and just earn 24/7. After a year or two you'll have a fat nest egg to reset with.

This is completely false. You'll spend weeks or months alone in a metal box eating shit and getting the worst sleep. That will absolutely take a massive toll on your mental health and relationships. Rookie drivers always get the worst routes, lowest pay rates, and oldest trucks while they pay off their training contract/ probation period. The dispatch office absolutely will fuck with your money, and you'll be too far away, too tired, and too busy to notice or do anything about it. There will absolutely be times where you basically work for free. Guaranteed.
