It's always been like that. There was a brief time when niggers who aspired to a better life went to the trouble to speak proper English, but stopped when other niggers accused them of "acting White". The negro dialect has always been very distinct, and it was different many decades ago. The way Mark Twain renders it in the 1800s is absolutely accurate (he was a stickler for accuracy).
