Cromwell permitted jews because of retarded puritan eschatology which stated that jews must be spread to all corners of the world before the second coming. He did not necessarily *like* them, but viewed them as a necessary evil and a means to an end. This was a disastrous idea, but William the conqueror invited jews to England 600 years before cromwell did. The edict of expulsion wasn't put into law until about a quarter of a millennium later. More than the entire time the US has existed, England had jews free to do whatever. Who knows how many of them infiltrated Norman ranks, and considering how conniving the normans actually were, who knows how complete the edict of expulsion actually was and if it was ever genuine at all or just an attempt to finally win the favor of the anglo saxon and celtic populace who very much still despised the normans (and jews, obv) at this point
