The criticism was that hitler was bad at drawing faces with emotion. Another criticism was that hitlers paintings of buildings were somewhat 2d and lacked depth. All of which are valid and, honestly, true, and this would be a good reason to reject anyone from a fine arts academy. However, many of the applicants passed with pure shit paintings and were essentially only accepted for being trendy while Hitler was a realist artist.

It's not really that hitler was rejected thats up for discussion. It's the fact that the school didn't use the same standards for others that submitted even worse paintings in a different style from his.
