Reminds me of the "Epic of Gilgamesh" where a wild, uncivilized man, Enkidu, lives among the animals and is brought into human society. A hunter, unable to catch game because of Enkidu's interference, seeks help. Shamhat, a temple woman, is sent to meet Enkidu and they have sex.
Shamhat teaches him the practices of civilization, like wearing clothes, eating bread, drinking beer, anointing himself with oil, and living among people. Afterward, the animals no longer accept Enkidu as one of their own as he has gained Human wisdom and self-consciousness, losing his former innocence and wildness.
Enkidu becomes Gilgamesh's closest friend, helping him defeat Humbaba and kill the Bull of Heaven. After the Bull of Heaven is slain, the gods decide that one of the two heroes must die. They choose Enkidu, who bitterly curses Shamhat and the hunter because they led him away from his savage existence in the wilderness. Had they not found him, he believes, he would never have suffered this fate.
Every time I see one of these "tamed" savages chimpout, I think of them as a failed Enkidu. They're just not built to burden civilization. Their nature is among the animals they resemble. It's a mistake to bring them into civilization, which they can neither build or sustain on their own. It's actually cruel to them and irresponsible to everyone's safety; like introducing an infection to the body out of "kindness" to the germs.
