I encountered problems like this with counselors, essentially if you seek mentoring or counsel, they need to have the right values or they will blatantly recommend sinful measures

I suspect in the past the role of psychologist was probably handled by religious brothers and priests in "Christendom";

there may be a role for laymen acting as psychologists but I think a lot of times the issues overlap with some kind of guilt and sin where a person would confess to a priest or be seeking religious advice
