Nevertheless, the types of people in this unit (not all of whom are russkiye) probably saw this as a joke. Give them some alcohol, maybe have a few of their comrades killed by their Islamist and separatist enemies, and I can absolutely see them doing this in anger to de-tension.
It was probably a very multiracial coalition - some Malians and some rossiyane, both russkiye and all kinds of mixed types, and maybe even some Central Asians - that were standing around when this happened. Most of them simply spectators, most of them laughing and cheering it on. A few with cigarettes and alcohol bottles in hand.
That - Goita's pan-Africanist junta and the Russian Africa Corps - is basically one side of the conflict, the other side are a mixture of Tuareg separatists from the north and Islamized southerners. Last I read, the Tuareg separatists and the Islamist or Jihadist southerners have cemented together enough of an alliance to focus their efforts solely against the former.
