I remember ESPN leaned into that stuff way too hard during the NFL draft five or six years ago. For almost every single guy drafted in the 1st round, they included some kind of sad ghetto story as part of the player's profile (raised by grandparents, best friend was shot, etc.). Even mainstream media picked up on it and called it "tragedy porn."
