I do get the value of training in martial arts
but I've wondered if these kinds of contests - that often result in brain damage - are some kind of bad "bread and circuses" distraction
this sounds like a nudge in that direction of confirmation
I mean if people want to risk bodily danger they could just work on a farm or something right (top dangerous profession) - as we need food to live but don't need people pretending to be in a "war against each other" getting permanent brain damage
> In the U.S., farming is often cited as having the highest or second-highest fatality rate among major industry sectors.
> Fatality Rate: The Bureau of Labor Statistics reports approximately 23 work-related deaths per 100,000 workers in agriculture. This is roughly 7 times higher than the national average for all workers.
> Comparison: Farmers are nearly twice as likely to die on the job as police officers and five times as likely as firefighters.
