I raise chickens. Cornish crossed with white Plymouth Rocks are the dominant meat bird available across the US and have been since the 40's, nothing new. They are typically butchered at about 8 weeks old, and their legs definitely don't "snap" at that age. But if you let them grow to adulthood, they can have physical issues, but of course they aren't meant to grow to adulthood. Same issue with broad breasted turkeys and Pekin ducks, you are raising a structure that meat is growing on, you aren't raising a pet meant to live 20 years. I eat plenty of my other varieties of chickens, but they aren't anywhere near as efficient at growing meat or as tender and delicious as a Cornish/Rock cross.

I think you're doing it right vs. the factory farms which are doing things very differently (more like the image).

most people have never killed

I've had women who didn't want me to set traps to kill rats or raccoons they had fucking up their properties. LOL I said would you like me to re-home the rat or bring in a PETA consultant?

People are so fucking stupid i can't really deal with normies anymore. I just recluse to rural forest.

We reduced the number of chickens we have to kill by 75% and they're complaining anyway.

The "often snap their legs"? Seriously? This is just stupid. I've been around poultry my entire life. Yes, we breed everything for our purposes, and those purposes don't include extended life or flight/speed.

I've had people tell me it isn't "natural" to have chickens that are huge by 8 weeks old or goats that give a gallon of milk a day. The same people probably think cauliflower and sweet corn just naturally grow in the woods, waiting for them to walk by and eat them.

Yeah, I get a kick out of people's outrage over "genetically modified" crops and whatnot. Hell, we've been modifying them forever! Sure, there are levels to that game, but the game has gone on for centuries

IIRC this was a result of WW2 and trying to maximize resources, and before that they weren't bred as large or slaughtered as early. Can't really comment on how it actually affects their health though (I assume the image here is from PETA or something similar)
