I don't think he intentionally left it out, rather he probably just forgot, but it would have been a very good point to hammer home what he's saying. Our greatest enemy rescued our sailors, our greatest ally murdered them. Cold war psyops were still trying to drive the point home with *HEAVY* pro israel propaganda in every aspect. If you think the propaganda has been bad in your lifetime, the shit from the 60s was so on the nose that it could pass for parody. There's a reason boomers are the way they are. An acknowledgement that the USSR saved US sailors and that Israel killed them would have hit the US like a fucking nuke if the word got out during the cold war.

If there ever was a time for the military to disobey a direct order, this was it. I don't know if anyone on the bridge of the USS Saratoga ever told their side of the story in detail.
