That being said, iberian people pay attention and know that they're the next on the chopping block given that the region has gone for so long without dealing with huge waves of migration from sub saharan africa like other places in Europe have. Mostly by sheer luck of the draw, given that no politicians here have our interests at heart. The consensus here is extremely hostile towards immigration (with the exception of Latin America because of the hispanidad notion). Even left wing people who vote for Podemos will have hesitation towards immigration from sub saharan africa and the arab world. This is the reason that vox is popular now, because boomer conservatives buy the grift they're selling (just like everywhere else), but they never win parliament anyways because they openly support Israel and the GOP and that's a very hard line in the sand for spanish people because spain has had an anti Israel policy since 1948. Can't really speak for portugal, I believe Salazar was anti Israeli but the portuguese political system didn't tow the line after the end of estado novo like spain did and continues to do.
