If it's a white sport, you'll see Mountain Dew ads. UFC, Nascar, Rodeos, skateboarding, bmx, snowboarding are heavily sponsored by Mountain Dew. Many white singers will mention mountain dew in their songs or devote a song to it.

The marketing campaign when mountain few first came out deliberately targeted rural white people (even the name mountain dew is a slang term for moonshine or whisky). The first generation that drank it was white, and eating habits are generational as has been proven. It's the white version of grape soda. Every other soda besides grape soda and mountain dew had no particular appeal to one demographic over another. They marketed to white people again by sponsoring a bunch of shit that white people do, but by that point their target demographic was already buying the drink anyways.
The reason they kept drinking it is because mountain dew has the highest amounts of sugar and sugar is addictive. Fair enough.
