Hitler tried diplomacy plenty of times and it didn't work. Hitler was also far from crazy, he was a pragmatist and while the early DAP was weird and into bizarre occultism, Hitler eliminated these elements from the party quite early on. Except for himmler, whom Hitler in reality was embarrassed about more than anything and he only funded his expeditions to placate him.
Hitler was never part of the occultist side of the volkisch movement. It's debatable whether or not he believed in the volkisch movement at all, besides having somewhat convergent views on racial theory (and this was hardly restricted to the volkisch movement, or even Germany as a whole). Hitler was drawn to the DAP because of the name and a possible far left past, according to some theories I can't verify, which he became estranged from. He was a normal dude (normal as in not weird and not crazy, certainly he was extraordinary) and he made it a party for normal people.
The nazi space lasers, wonder weapons, and expeditions to find agartha or whatever are mostly made up. In the cases that they were real, they were things that Hitler begrudgingly tolerated at best.
