There were a decent amount of white people in India back then. Even before the indo european invasions, the indus Valley civilization was created by people of north middle-eastern/caucasian blood, basically mediterannean whites. White people, combined with Indias abundance of resources, turned India into one of the greatest empires and cultural centers of the ancient world in spite of the dravidians to the south, it was a place of grand architecture, philosophy, and plenty because the white Indian knew how to use Indias massive amount of resources. They also knew not to mix with the dravidians.
Then at some point the caste system collapsed in on itself, the dravidian population exploded, and the north Indian population turned into a bunch of mutants.
A cautionary tale can be seen in how India once was and how it will never be again. The elaborate palaces and temples have turned into shantytowns, the complex philosophy and religion have turned into cow shit eating contests and absurd superstitions, the high education and wisdom have been twisted to insanity, the once noble brahmins and kshatriya are now simply the "least bad" ones out of a people that is derelict and stupid as a default. The caste system doesn't even function as it did in ancient times, it's a broken version of what it was before. Instead of being based off of race + labor, similar to the Spanish encomienda system, now it's just arbitrary, random, and almost impossible to actually quantify. I can't explain to you what the modern caste system even is, indians couldn't tell you either.
White Indians exist, technically, there are a scant few scattered about the subcontinent, but you rarely see or hear anything about them because they live amongst each other. Some of them are in bollywood because they're much less ugly. Understandable on their part. They are a tiny minority but used to be possibly up to or over half of the population (considering that naturally, the indus Valley area would have a much higher population density than the jungles and tribes to the south anyways). The aryan tribes of Afghanistan and Pakistan represent the ancient white Indian pretty well, and are larger in number than Indias current white population.

Why would any White people ever living in India?
It used to be a giant pit of massive amounts of natural resources with a couple sparsely populated dravidian tribes. It's a no brainer that people in the vicinity of India, moved to India, and it happened to be mostly white people. Even when India very much ceased to be a land of any prosperity whatsoever, it was still a pit of natural resources, which is why the British and the portuguese both wanted India so badly, though they certainly never colonized it because that ship had already sailed about 3000 years ago.
But india has the most arable land on the planet, even today. In ancient times it probably had even more. That lends itself very well to nearby farming societies casting their lot and deciding to relocate to the subcontinent because you could toss a seed on the ground anywhere and it would grow, as well as later nomadic indo Europeans who decided that they were tired of being nomadic.
