The bolsheviks came to all their farms and confiscated their grains and food supplies.

The holodomor was mostly starvation, right?

Then the bolsheviks took the food supplies they stole and exported it in exchange for weapons, tanks, military apparatus. Russia (at the time) wasn't quite as industrialized as western nations but had plenty of grain and agriculture to steal/confiscate and export/trade.
