> A pleasure to drive, Low-tech Magazine’s handcart demonstrates the advantages of slow, human-powered transportation.

> The human-powered handcart is the oldest of vehicles, and it will likely be the last one around in the future. Of all vehicles, it’s the cheapest and least complex to build and use. It offers a large advantage over carrying a load on your back or dragging it over the ground - the even older concept of the sled. On the other hand, the handcart is cheaper and easier to use than the animal-powered cart. Oxen and donkeys eat more than humans, and they have their own will, which can work against the driver.

Maybe fun for difficult terrain, survival preparedness, or as a kind of backpacking

I have a modified bike trailer that I used to use all the time when the kids were little, excellent for errands and the big wheels go over rough terrain like nothing. I'd considered it for camping but I don't have as much space in the car.

Aside from moving children, it's also handy just to store stuff when you're out. I used to pull up to the park with a full complement of toys and could run around with the kids without worrying that someone would steal it, like I would with a backpack.

Yes. Yes they do. You know what they eat? What we don't. So that argument is bullshit.
