No. I used to think the same way when I was 13. Because I was an idiot child who didnt understand physics and higher concepts of reality. When i did learn them I understood why our laws are the way they are. You will get there someday. I can help.
If you are *paying attention and aware of your surroundings, as you should always be while walking near vehicles,* you have more time to respond and the DRIVER has more time to respond. Its not as much about the pedestrian, as the driver. When you are moving *with the grain* you have a better chance of reacting appropriately and so do they. Also, if you ARE hit *from behind* your legs bend in a natural way, scooping you up. Against the grain you are guaranteed permanent damage if not death.
Many people much smarter than everyone you know put together have debated this for years and shown tine and again why you are wrong and that is why our laws are written as they are for traffic.
