The left and even the non left conspiracy type people (like over at Conspiracies here) are flipping out over this ballroom thing. Honestly, I am open to the assassination being staged, though I am not convinced yet, but this ballroom thing seems pretty weak to me. I can totally understand this though the general lens that "establishment republicans are all scumbags."
Would they use an assassination attempt, a real one assuming that it was, to shill this bullshit ballroom fight? Yes, they absolutely would.
Assume no ethical constraints. The only constraint is how obvious it is (a little obvious is good enough), if it can be found out (evidence, proof, logic), financial aspects (it needs to be financially worth it, which btw is at the expense of tax payers), but that's really it.
This goes for the US government for a century at least, and it varies in intensity over time. Currently it's highly corrupt (not just bribes, but also willingness to deceive, to warmonger, treason, etc).
