> in a factory

Like I said, the only guys making real money are working for commercial operations with "mission critical" infrastructure. These are the guy who keep the lights on, the trucks and trains running, etc. The guys doing consumer/ residential work aren't making any real money. Their employers are, but the guys doing the real work aren't.

I’m not even in a mission critical industry.

It IS highly reliant on automation however and I have a decade of experience in maintaining automated equipment.

I say "mission critical" in so far as operations. A factory without proper wiring or no power is a very expensive thing. Not shipping out whatever your factory makes and holding up all those trucks is a very expensive thing. Fucking up your clients production lines is a very expensive thing.

So yeah, I'm sure your employer thinks keeping the lights on and the power flowing is "mission critical" to them.

Yup. This. I make automated machines and while there are less need for low level people there is a higher need for people to understand and maintain these machines
