Orwell said as much. He wrote "1984" as a warning to his fellow British Socialists after fighting in Spain, where he witnessed the brutal, deceitful tactics of (((Bolsheviks))). Of course, his fellow comrades "cancelled" him after its publication and he was kicked out of the "cool kids club."
