Video games are a form of art, and to make one entirely on your own would require multiple artistic skills. That said, a lot of other art forms are inundated with slop; anyone who's listened to the radio or watched television for even a few seconds can attest.

I play fps games every night for about an hour. I enjoy it, helps me unwind and I also believe it keeps your eyes strong. I'm middle aged and still hanging on to 20/20 vision. If I don't play for a couple weeks I can literally feel my eyes getting weak. Several studies support this. A good online strategy game is really no different from chess. Many games are complete and utter garbage, also hours and hours a day will ruin your life for sure.

Games in moderation can be ok but I think I tried to just transition to doing other things and there's probably more non-game things to enjoy

I even have tried to "automate" away the effort of playing the game via playthroughs but checking in recently, even putting on a playthrough vid is like 20 hours long to play in the background while I do other things... that feels like a lot of time

idk I guess for me this points to a need to maybe create "standards" like we have with "Great Books" selections of some of the best literature... no one has time to play all these random "slop" games on steam, let alone maybe a few "good" ones.

So like it really comes down to a whole philosophy of life and where games even fit in to one's life.
