Mankind has ALWAYS been this way.
If you want a high-trust society, you need to purge society of all elements that are not trustworthy. We did this in the middle ages by sentencing half of the adult population to be expelled from the towns and cities. But even then!
This whole thing sounds like a man-baby crying because he just realized that this world sucks and he has to act like a man just to survive. Like he was coddled as a child and no one ever told him about the true nature of human beings, or tried to convince him that you can just be happy-go-lucky and things will work out in the end.
He was probably raised without a dad. See, a real father would make sure that his son realized what society was really like and how he needed to act to create a safe environment to raise a family in.
I had "the talk" with every one of my kids as they leave my home, and it's not just explaining about blacks. It's explaining about life, how you have to live with your shields up all the time, and how people who seem trustworthy are the people you need to trust the least. How to trust-but-verify. How to not get screwed in the end.

Men don't take the law into their own hands anymore. Go back in time, American cities used to be a sort of no-man's land where people didn't call the cops when there was a problem. New York City used to be way different back then.
Criminals can literally get away with murder if they understand how our law works. There's nothing we can do about it once they do. We cannot expect the law to cover every single situation with 100% accuracy and efficiency.
Retarded criminals are easy to catch and we should be throwing the book at them. We should be hanging them every day and putting their heads on pikes as a deterrent. Instead we have women running our judicial system so that they get babied. No, the time for babying was before they grew up and went into society. Once they are in society causing real problems, we punch them in the face until they stop acting up.
We should be throwing tons of people into insane asylums. They should never be allowed to leave. It's either that or we enact the death penalty like it was intended. People who cross a certain line are no longer allowed to co-exist with us in the mortal realm. There must be a place where we can dump people who clearly cannot behave properly in society.
