There's a reason that special operations forces worldwide care more about running and swimming than anything else. They run and swim constantly. Run for miles, swim for miles, but they really don't do much (normal) exercise apart from running and swimming, running and swimming. All the time, running and swimming. At least in training, which is when they have the most optimal exercises for field work (obviously).
The lesson here: run and swim. Do a lot of it. Lift too, of course, lift and get strong, but do a lot of cardio, it's the most important skill you have. Being fit isn't about lifting heavy or being able to hit someone, it's about being well rounded, being able to do everything. And perhaps the most important ability if SHTF is the ability to run for your life and live to fight another day.
I realize that boxing is also cardio, but running is a skill that isn't just about cardio. If you box you can run a little bit better too, but if you run then you're building your skill at running by default, obviously. Your body wants to run, it's built to run, you have legs for running, you sweat because God created you to run for long distances better than anything else in the world can. Aerobic activity is the most important type of exercise for long-term health bar none because it is specifically what homo sapiens were designed to do.
