he wanted peace and prosperity for his people and his nation (same thing).

ethnic Germans getting genocided in formerly German lands, German women and children getting sold to international middlemen as sex slaves, and the German people at large being crushed and ruined through usury and the blatant bad will from the rest of Europe got him a little sideways. Can't blame him for that.

the USA should have entered the war on Germany and Japan's side.
