*The Irishman Who Saved Houston*

In 1863, the fate of Houston hung by a thread. Union forces, armed with warships and thousands of soldiers, set their sights on Texas, aiming to strike deep into its heart. But standing in their path was a 26-year-old Irish immigrant named Dick Dowling. With only 47 men under his command and a few well-placed cannons at muddy Sabine Pass, Dowling did the impossible. He repelled a force nearly 100 times larger. In just 45 minutes, his unit captured two Union gunboats and over 300 soldiers, without losing a single man. Make no mistake: without Dowling’s courage, strategy, and leadership, Houston would have been overrun and wiped off the map, known today only by historical markers. One of America’s great cities could have been a casualty of Union brutality. Even President Jefferson Davis recognized the feat, calling it “more remarkable than the battle of Thermopylae.” Dick Dowling wasn’t born in Texas, but he risked everything to protect it. His is a story of bravery, resilience, and the power of one determined White man to change the destiny of a city. Today, in a city that is majority nonwhite, ridden with crime and homelessness, Dowling's heroics are disavowed. His statue was removed during the "racial reckoning" of the dirty black summer of 2020. The street named after him was renamed Emancipation Avenue. The people who have been brought here to replace us hate our history, they resent us, they don't appreciate the sacrifices or the hard work, and they will destroy our country because they do not understand or respect what it took to create and defend it.

☘Hail Dick Dowling and God Bless Texas🇺🇸

What's not talked about much is how well the south treated catholics, the Irish, and the italians compared to the north. The Irish and Italians integrated extremely well into southern culture and defended it fiercely. The confederacy also boasted more catholic generals than the union (in number and percentage), with Jefferson himself having a deep affinity for catholicism being raised in a catholic school (and by some accounts being a crypto catholic). Well, this all changed with the Klan which hated catholics, but the confederacy was very amicable towards them. Most of the anti catholic, anti Irish, and anti Italian sentiment was up north and spread south well after the Civil war.

The cultural reasons for this are also complex. Southerners claimed history from the royalists of the english Civil War, and the Yankees as being the puritans. This is both true (the Yankees were most certainly the puritans) but it's also kind of false, it was mostly jacobites much later on (also reactionary catholics from Scotland) that settled the south, the Carolinas in particular, not really the royalists who didnt have a migration pattern, and this was mostly in the appalachian mountains. The last Jacobite highland charge was in north carolina.

There's a lot to southern history that even most southerners are *completely* ignorant about because of the destruction of the culture after reconstruction, and then the destruction of reconstruction-era southern beliefs after FDR. It's quite depressing.

But I even grew up with this difference in attitudes in the early 2000s. My dad's side is german and scottish from the south, protestant, conservative, descended from confederates, but with no ill will towards catholics at all. My mother's side is irish protestant (odd combination I'm aware, not northern Irish either), german, and broadly British from Pennsylvania. Wanted every catholic to die and burn in hell, my great grandmother cheered when JFK was shot because "godless satanic catholic". She kept a picture of fucking cromwell in her house.

Furthermore, I consider that Israel must be destroyed
