250 words? That's an average instagram reels description. It's nothing. Average typing speed is 40 words per minute, so it would take an average person about 6 minutes to write 250 words. 40 words per minute at $0.07 is $168 per hour. A writer should type faster than average, and even if they take more thinking time than average, you only have to write one 1,000 word article, take 30-60minutes to do it well and even another hour to edit it and thats $14,285 for a couple of hours of buckle down work.
Really, that's not a lot at all. About an hour ago, I wrote 500 words in reply to a technical question on a forum, and that was just banter. It took maybe 20 minutes to write, 10 to edit out the "It's early and I'm stupid" stuff. I could easily do 10x that in a couple hours if I wanted to really get technical and in-depth and wasn't character limited where I was posting.
A good writer should able able to whip out a couple hundred words without any problem at all.
But also, that being said, $17.50 isn't terrible for a retail job, it's actually pretty decent (in some places.) Where I am, they probably pay that just to keep up with the other positions like it. However, are these people getting full-time work? No. Not at all.
I have had some family members work for the mart of walls over the years, and in rare cases (like around the Holidays) they would get some full-time hours, but in most cases it was very limited hours. That worked well for those people because they were in school, or simply looking for some extra income - but there was no chance they could go full-time in the summer or any other time except when conditions for the store demanded it.

I'll get paid 17.50 an hour to write 250 fucking words right now, that's literally nothing. That's free money. What dumb motherfucker thought this was a dig at Jacobin (mind you i don't like jacobin), this is a free recruitment strategy. I can type 250 words an hour in a text conversation
I would also like to take the $4.20 for the 30 seconds I spent typing out the above comment please
Let's see, I did some research and I found out that the average jacobin article is 2000 words. This is about 140 dollars per article on average. Let's assume I am a particularly avid jacobin journalist and I write an article every day, each article averaging 2000 words, that's about 4200 a month, which is 50.400 a year. For doing something that's really fucking easy and that I do every day on this forum for free. This is about 14.000 more a year than Walmart. Again, for working at home writing an article that might cost me 2 hours of my time and not having to deal with the general public or the Walmart corporation
Furthermore, I consider that Israel must be destroyed

That's 219 words. Where's my seventeen-fiddy?
