In the various discussions about the benefits of raw meat, raw vegetables, etc (I have my own takes on these things, but that's not why I'm posting) I believe that one very potent raw ingredient that has very big benefits has been forgotten: raw garlic.

I discovered the benefits of raw garlic mostly on accident. I have taken a liking to eating a slice of toast in mid day with a couple cloves of garlic mashed into almost a paste, tomato, olive oil, and jamón (optional, on occasion) and I've been eating this nearly daily for a couple months now.

Well, the only thing about my diet which is new is the introduction of raw garlic, as i definitely already eat quite a lot of tomatoes and olive oil. But I started to wonder why I felt so good all the time.

Well, cooked garlic is good for you too, but raw garlic contains a compound called allicin. It's strongly anti parisitic, anti fungal, anti bacterial, etc. It basically kills everything in your body that's not supposed to be there. It's also very good for your blood pressure, your heart, it is a blood thinner, etc.

I noticed that I actually did get sick somewhat recently, but the effect of the sickness was not there. I was able to completely recover in about a day. I believe that this is because of the garlic.

I also grew a taste for raw garlic and now will eat cloves as a snack throughout the day.

What to know: it might make you stinky at first, but if you eat it consistently you will stop being stinky. Raw garlic is extremely strong and pungent (because of the allicin), it's spicy and might be off putting. You can mix raw garlic with other things (like tomato), olive oil, etc to neutralize the pungency of it. It will make your breath stink: apples get rid of the smell of garlic. So does ginger, so do cloves (as in the spice, not garlic cloves).

Eat garlic

I go through about half a garlic head per day as an average. Garlic and onions (I go through even more onions) are the most versatile foods on the planet and some of the most healthy. They make anything (at least anything that isn't sweet) taste better. Though, I usually make italian, French, some american, and Spanish food at home, so it uses quite a substantial amount of garlic and onions.

Italian food, actually, does not use so much garlic. Italian american food does. But authentic French and Spanish food use metric fuck tons of it. Most of what I make that is italian is authentic but more heavy handed on the garlic than what you would find in Italy because my palette is adjusted to the Spanish adoration of the plant. I put garlic in things that Italians would not but that Spanish or french people would most certainly.

Cloves and clove oil work great for toothaches. It's a natural painkiller.

But honestly, ever since I started using 3% food grade H2O2 as a mouthwash, no toothpaste, once a week or often less, I haven't had problems. I still need to use dental floss to get chunks of food out from between my teeth but that's it.

I hadn't tried fresh garlic to treat infections. I'll keep it in mind.

With the H2O2, are you still brushing? or are you just flossing and washing?

I brush every once in a while, maybe once every other day.

Around once a week I brush, floss, then rinse with 3%.

I don't get the buildup I used to and my breath doesn't smell at all anymore.

I think you have that backwards. You want to wait 10 to 15 minutes _after_ cutting it in order to get the most Allacin production from the tissues.

Allacin itself lasts for like 15 hours.

If it broke down that fast eating it would be pointless.

My understanding is that growing garlic is ridiculously easy too. I haven't tried it yet but if someone has experiences I'd love to hear it.

Mussilini himself had a routine of eating raw garlic with olive oil + lemon juice every day

coupled with a glass of milk (possibly raw?) it gave him strength

there is something power in garlic, it purges the body of toxins and in many "grandma recipes" it literally IS a vital ingredient in home-made anti-parasitic remedies

Shallot and ginger also have similar effect, keeping your body warm and detoxing your stomach.

It has been my go to natural cure for many years. Every time my wife asks if I need some stomach medicine, I just ask her to make me some ginger honey drink.

The key understanding for raw garlic is IT NEEDS TO BE EATEN IMMEDIATELY UPON CUTTING OR SMASHING.

The best way to absorb allicin is to CHEW THE WHOLE RAW CLOVE, keeping your mouth closed the entire time.

Allison is produced and destroyed by the exposure to oxygen cutting, chewing, or smashing gives. It is VERY FLEETING.

Pre minced garlic does not have it. Garlic never exposed to oxygen doesnt either.

Can affirm that this is true. Allicin is the pungent compound in garlic that makes it so strong, garlic starts to get weaker in flavor when it is left out, and it gets weaker very quickly. That's why pre minced garlic tastes weird. Though, even if you leave the garlic out for too long or even if you don't eat it raw at all, you can still benefit from the host of other nutrients in the garlic, allicin is just the best one and the hardest to get from other sources.

Yeah its not like you shouldnt eat it other ways too, but specifically for the allicin the speed is key

I read the opposite, that allaicin gets formed through contact with air after you mince the garlic. Taking about 10m to reach the peak concentration. At which point you should eat it.

Rubbing fresh garlic on a bit of lángos is delicious. But you do not stop stinking of garlic after eating it consistently, you just get nose blind to it!

It's not that it kills parasites/bacteria, it's that it detoxes the toxins and heavy metals which means the body no longer needs the parasites/bacteria to deal with them any more. I'm very familiar with allicin. I also recommend chewing a raw clove every day for oral health.

I eat at least a half a clove of boiled, or pickled garlic everyday. Love the stuff. I’ll never forget the time I popped four large pieces from a clove when I was younger. After chewing it, when I swallowed, I thought I was going to die. Do not recommend. lol.

If you have some crushed tomatoes then you can grind or chop up some cloves of garlic and put it together on bread. This is a typical appetizer in spain, where the garlic is either chopped and then rubbed across the bread for extra flavoring or, in Andalusian fashion, grinded directly with the tomatoes for more intensity. Top bread with olive oil and salt or eat with just the tomatoes and garlic. If you can grind the tomato into a slurry yourself it's better than canned.

Good write up brother. Raw garlic in general is very delicious if you can get use to it. Not everyone can. It is easier to consume with a salad or something similar for people that are just getting introduced too it

I'll be honest, it's hard to choke down raw garlic, but it works. One time I had a...feminine imbalance, if you will... and placed one peeled clove to the affected area. I could taste and smell garlic (???) but the problem was corrected in hours.

Apparently, from what I understand, it can also be used to treat earaches and headaches by placing garlic inside of the ears. There's also a traditional Chinese method to cure a cold by holding a clove of it in the back of your mouth (where the sinuses are) that allegedly works quite well.

On that note (Chinese Medicine), there is a Buddhist Monastery where they do not serve garlic, onions or any aromatics to the monks. They explained that garlic/onions are too fire element and heat up the blood, causing passions like anger and arousal. Afaik the health concept is about balancing elements. If you had an abundance of wet, say like a snotty wet cold, you would balance by adding heat such as garlic. Amish also put cut onions in their socks when sleeping to cure colds and sickness. Finally, I've had a headache on one side that won't budge so today I'm testing the ear theory.

If I feel ill or any of my family we crunch a raw garlic clove and drink a bitter herbal tea. If you catch it in time works for most of minor things. Learn basic herbal medicine it's not hard and very rewarding
