The Spanish colonies were viceroyalties that were governed by separate government officials with different takes on that matter under the service of the Spanish crown. The amount of Spanish territory held was also absolutely enormous and thus race varies wildly in each country.

It wasn't really that they were different and that the British colonists were more racist.
