1) being competitive is not a bad thing so why did they phrase it like that? they are communists and any type of structure built on merit pisses them off. resentment of the losers at life.
2) also, it's projection. they are narcissists that can only see value in themselves based on the external approval of others. inside them is a black hole of nothing. the concept of being internally motivated, of having your own plan and goals for life indepedent of external approval is a _completely_ alien thought to them. It doesn't even make sense to them. If you try to explain this to them it short-circuits their brain and they assume you are lying and being duplicitous.

Do they not realize that the soviets were very much into competitive fitness? To the point of near obsession, actually. They dominated the Olympics every time because of the fitness culture that they had, which would continue for the entire life of the average person who was interested.
And even the baseline fitness test for a soviet high schooler would probably kill the "people" who organized this "run" club. The fitness requirements for the actual red army were pretty much higher than every military in existence today, a 3000m run in less than 10:30 minutes was part of it. Which is something that will even leave me gasping a bit as someone who runs at least 2 miles (but usually up to 6-8) every day. I believe it was also about 15 pull-ups as a minimum. The russian army (pre-war at least) uses basically the same standards, which are (or were) some of the highest in the world. Although the run time is less, everything else is carried over from the red army, if one is curious it can be looked up.
The USSR had medals for being the most fit person. They subsidized athletes. They wanted you to be competitive and the best in physical readiness.
I don't like to speak super highly of the USSR, but there's nothing "leftist" about being a lazy out of shape fuck. It's just americanism.
