My friends got married on a beach in the evening with a dozen guests including their immediate family.

No gifts. Smart casual clothing. Nothing fancy.

We all took photos on our cameras and phones, so we didn't need a photographer.

The civil celebrant service cost something like $100 - $150 to get the paperwork done.

Afterwards we spent the evening together sitting around my stone fire pit.

Friends all chipped in $50 for drinks and BBQ meat. I prepared some home-brew like I often do.

I spent about $150 on some good quality snacks and cooked up some home-made pizzas (because they are nice) with feta salad.

It was a beautiful celebration.

One of my workmates had a massive fancy and expensive wedding. Professional caterers, florists, photographers, music, gifts for everyone, honeymoon holiday, etc. She wouldn't say how much it costs, but she did arrive on a horse drawn cart. I tried not to laugh when she said that. It sounded retarded.

sounds about right. should cost about the same as throwing a big family gathering - like a large Thanksgiving.

remember the purpose of a wedding: to celebrate the formation of a new family and to broadcast that this particular woman is taken to any other potential suitors.

Sounds like a good time. You are a good friend for trying your best to make it a special occassion.

It's really just about the union, celebrating the union, having family and friends who support the union. It's easier for a marriage to work out when everyone around you is supportive.

I dont even think the legal paperwork is necessary. For example if it puts you at disadvantage then dont file it. If it puts you at advantage then file. Having the government recognize a marriage is meaningless now that the government recognizes fake marriages. So that could have saved you guys extra $150.

Our church does weddings for free

The families can bring their own food and decorations, but renting the church is free.

This is the correct answer. Buy everyone a drink but, for the love of God, no open bar.

That's what my brother did when he knocked up his girlfriend while she was still in high school. Took his pregnant wife to her senior prom.

There wasn't supposed to be any alcohol but her side of the family had beer and schnapps in their trunks. There was a fight in the parking slit and someone's tire.

I grew up across a hay field from a trailer park.

If he's not offering at least 3 goats then it's disrespectful to even consider.

I tried to get married as cheap as possible and couldn't find a way to do it so I just went to a Civil Servant's house and signed papers with immediate family. That was it. It was like $150.

I'm glad I did it that way because we got divorced. I couldn't imaging having also wasted $30k on a wedding.

Why sign papers? For the government?

Just take the oath to cherish and behold and all that in front of a priest and in front of family and friends as witnesses.

Who gives a fuck if Government knows you are married or not? The government claims a bunch of faggots are married.

I did it for the woman because like all women she wanted the papers to help her in divorce court because she was planning a few steps ahead.

How much do you have?

this is probably the determining question, sounds like from responses and what I've seen online if you're...

-totally broke, you'd maybe have a "microwedding" that only costs maybe a few hundred bucks

-don't have much money, may have a smaller wedding that costs a few thousand

-have however much money beyond that to spend, then you can spend more and invite more people and add more bells and whistles if desired

You can get married at the courthouse for like 160 bucks or whatever.

Then you can have a priest ordain it for whatever it costs. Then have some friend or the exterminator show up as a witness.

Should not set you back more than a grand.
Anything else is entertaining female delusions.

Skip the legalities

A marriage needs to be recognized by a church, not the government.

For a woman it's her most important day of her life.

So we shouldn't be too fucking cheap, LOL

I'm okay with the back yard BBQ and playing banjo but women want attention, celebration, cheer, decoration and all that woman stuff. So i say entertain some of those female delusions for her if it makes her happy on the biggest day of her life.

Moderate her CONSOOMERISM with the idea that money not blown on the wedding can be down payment on the legacy of the marriage such as land, a home, saving for the first child, etc.

Yeah, no. You set the precedence that financial security and responsibility are more important than her kike-inspired delusional fantasies.

Go ask your male friends how glad they are they spent 30K on fucking “make me a princess” day. I’ll wait.

yeah, precisely. i'd honestly be willing to spend $500-$1000 on a "big family gathering" type wedding with food and drink and decorations, but never for a woman who's not willing to do it for $0.

ever since the world decided married couples were something to target and beat down instead of support and give benefits, there's zero reason to get legally married anyway. hell, i've heard some countries will treat you as married legally if you just live together a while when it comes to helping rip you apart later, so it's clear they really want re-atomization to be as common and traumatic as possible.

1-2 months salary on a wedding ring

have guests pay for their own travel and room. You pay for meals and entertainment.

I'd expect a wedding to cost me about $10k-$15k for food, a live band, a large tent/chairs/tables/rental stuff, photography, tuxedos and dresses etc.

Paid just under $1000 for a wedding with 200 people in attendance. Includes dress, cake, decorations, and such. Paid some family members for their contributions in there as well

My wedding was $5,000. Local Catholic church. Rented out a restaurant/event venue private room. Had dinner with about 25 family and friends.
