Uber drivers make NO MONEY!
Who's paying for their gas, oil, tire wear, insurance, depreciation? Oh, and their time?
Uber has [Externalized](https://www.google.com/search?q="Externality"+Economics+Definition) ALL those expenses onto people who don't know the first thing about running a business or managing their finances. There's a reason Uber doesn't manage a fleet of vehicles. Uber can undercut taxi companies because they've convinced dopes to work for free.
They see that they got $10 for this ride and $5 for that ride, and the Uber app actively encourages them by reminding them of how much money they've "earned" in a week. *"Great job. You've earned $X this week. Keep going!"*
Of course, what it doesn't remind them of are their taxes and expenses. If you look online, most make around $10/ hr. after taxes and expenses. A lot of women and elderly people do Uber because they figure its accessible work for them, but the risk isn't worth it.
