Many birth controls work by making the uterus inhospitable to the zygote, e.g. through preventing implantation.

If this happens unintentionally, it's called a "miscarriage." A miscarriage is also often called a ["spontaneous abortion."](https://www.health.harvard.edu/womens-health/miscarriage-a-to-z)

So yes, if it happens intentionally, it absolutely is abortion in the colloquial sense. Whether you kill the baby via poison or via blender/vacuum, you're still murdering the unborn child, which is what abortion is.
