Well, Putin set a precedent. He more or less proved that you can full on invade at least semi important countries with no actual consequences whatsoever besides the other side showboating and making threats. Iraq *would* be earlier proof of this, but there was no real superpower on earth besides the US from 1991-mid 2010s. The cold war might be proof of it if the USSR ever actually did anything, besides Afghanistan they really didnt invade shit. Now we live in a world where Russia and China are other superpowers (and China will probably surpass the US), and still nothing will actually happen.

Pornography was illegal in Soviet Union too and in general the commie block was a lot more socially conservative than the capitalist West, at least since the 1960's.
My default assumption is that if somebody makes it to the top of a country, he is a sociopath and the people whom he is supposed to serve are not a priority. With that assumption, I prefer when these sociopaths target each other directly instead of pushing the populations of their countries into war. Same applies to Russia/Ukraine where hundreds of thousands of White men have died, while taking out their "leaders" is considered taboo.
