Indian and Pakistani cuisine only exists in it's current form today because of the wealth the British created there. They didn't have spice farms big enough for the subcontinent until the British came and created the demand and infrastructure for transport.
Most of them still eat boiled peas every single day.

If you actually think about slavery, it makes no financial sense. You have to pay to feed and house the slave, and are responsible for him if he ever does anything retarded. It should be a million times cheaper to just pay someone to do the job.
Adam Smith writes about this in "The Wealth of Nations". Smith argued that slavery is inefficient from an economic standpoint, that free labor was more productive than slave labor.
Also, in the Antebellum south, the banking system was set up to support the slave system. Slaves could be used as collateral for loans.
Sounds like he was being sarcastic if he was a supporter of expelling them. Which still implies that some idiots (likely jews) were making the claim that getting rid of the invaders would somehow create a labor shortage, as though the native werent able (and probably more qualified) to work those jobs.
