I didn't even game often, but it constantly occupied my headspace. I spent tons of cash on Nintendo and steam just to barely play game but look forward to them. Or I would play them and it would just feel like a huge time sync and not fun.

I'm 40 now with 4 kids. I always justified it as a way to bond with them or something I deserved. I would say it was not as bad as doomscrolling or social media.

What kept me in the most was just memories of gaming. I just couldn't recreate the happy times. But I kept trying anyway. I tried moderation but I just cannot do it.

I decided to quit them all. It's liberating not to try for achievements or set arbitrary time limits. I no longer spend mental energy seeing what slop is too woke And acceptable.

I feel like this is something I should have done when I had my first kid years ago. It's a complete waste of time beyond some good mental exercises many of you cocks shamed vidya, and I salute you for it.

Everyone reading this under 40. Don't waste years like I did.

I can quit porn, carbs and even sugar but **never vidya**

vidya is the reason why i got to the redpill in the first place, it defined my personality, my humor my everything

sure if i had 4 fucking kids i'd definitely quit it or at least limit my consumption of it severely but since i have no kids, why the fuck SHOULD i take away the only thing that a White man can enjoy in this ultra niggerized timeline?

its literally the last bastion of White culture which is fought in both indie studios (usually from Serbia or some other based shithole) and modders who do Hitler's work by deniggerizing and dejewifing big publisher vidya? are they not literally fighting the very jewish culture of White erasure by ensuring we get a steady stream of orc (nigger) killing simulators?

or the actual based devs who get their games insta banned (like Angry goy 2 or Black Lives Splatter) which granted me countless hours of pure aryan entertainment?

i can see all the boomer arguments for vidya, twitter or whatever new shiny tech to be demonized as a "waste of time"

**time well enjoyed isn't wasted**, time wasted on gay niggerfaggotry or jewish goy slave grinding simulator (WoW, CSGO/DOTA) is absolutely fucking gay and a complete waste of time

like what's the difference between watching a movie or watching a documentary for a few hours or playing a vidya for a few hours? you're consuming story, soundtrack, gameplay which requires player input rather than passive information absorbtion and to me that will always make it the superior entertainment which i may remind you, that 25 years ago was entirely White, owned by Whites for Whites until the big money jews realized gaming is normalized and isn't just for nerds and decided to buy the entire fucking industry and make it shitty & gay

thus vidya became normalized consumer niggerfaggotry slop, hate not the medium but the jews who subverted said medium.

Halo 1-3 is still great entertainment and Gothic is literally a race war simulator between Orcs & sand people who worship death and White Humans Who worship the God of fire and light

Vidya is a White man's hobby and you can't change my mind about it.

Good for you. Modern gaming culture is the worst thing you can do to a child. The boys are taught to hate women or hate themselves. The girls are given lesbian training simulators and taught to disrespect and despise men.

AAA vidya is pure judiasm

but playing games made 20+ years ago back when everyone was White and modding the fuck out of them? now that's peak entertainment

esp where some devs literally make entire games out of the old engine with voice acting, cinematics and brand new locations/quests/weapons/armors and content abound

i must've dumped at least a good 2000+ hours on Gothic mods (Chronicles of Mrytana Archolos, Odyssey - By Order of the King, Legend of Ahssûn, Gladiator and many other modifications i can't remember off the top of my head)

also Warband has a fuckton of based mods, Zulu Wars which you literally kill niggers as a squad co-op game, Lord of the rings the last days of the third age which again--you kill niggers and sand niggers

in one of the Roman Mods (Emporer Nihil something) you can kill jewish rebels and sack Jerusalem (peak entertainment) and there is also a WW2 mod where you can fight with Hitler against Russia, Poland and other subhumanoid slavniggers who swore allgience to ZOG

i honestly can't even play classical vidya without mods, that's like eating ice-cream without the cream

there is so much content awaiting you on steam workshop alone (not counting moddb and nigsus mods) that will literally give those 2$ cd-key games a long, LONG bang for their buck

Yeah was a lot different back then. Now everything is cutscenes narrative and propaganda outside indie, smaller studio stuff

The gaming communities themselves that are pushed in our media are just trash though.

The shooters are now just grinding life stealers like the mmo's are and gambling simulators to get kids hooked.

Was just different with sayy N64 and kids playing Golden Eye, Mario Kart for a couple hours, no grinding, no microtransactions, skins etc.

Never did the Halo thing because my Dad always had a gaming PC. I played Starsiege Tribes multiplayer before the aimbots hit and a kid I knew had a few computers for counterstrike lans. Was a lot of fun. The more esports were pushed the more online it went, the more people cheated. Was just a waste of time lol.

It'd the only mass media for which this is true. Movies and comics were always kiked and no living person remembers when music and books *weren't* kiked.

Pre-00s gaming is an interesting cultural artifact in that we can see something that doesn't explicitely hate us.

Well at least back then kikes had to at least create entertaining content. Say what you will of Jerry Siegel, Joe Shuster, Bob Kane, Bill Finger, Stan Lee and Jack Kirby who were all kikes, but at least they wrote entertaining comics even if they did some subversive here or there. Now today’s kikes have completely become degenerate freaks who have completely lost the ability to craft entertaining stories. Really it’s the quality of Jews of the last eighty or so years which have gone in a deep end and the kikes today in the entertainment business or a pale shadow of their predecessors

Modern gaming is a cesspool as far as story games. It's just bad for kids. If you are older and enjoy the smaller indy shit or non story stuff? Go for it. My Dad was a carpenter. All he played was flight simulators and Diablo and Civilization type games which you seem to like. He died before Diablo 3 ever game out. I mean I know what Diablo is really about now and that it was subversion from a kike company with the "king of Tyre" Tyriel (all named angels have the El in their name like Michael, Gabriel) who is thrown out of heaven and retakes his rightful place as above so below...but that shit flies over most peoples head and they don't care about the story in the game anyways. I doubt they realize the game is attacking Michael the Archangel as evil, just like they don't know why Lilith is moral grey or where she is from (judaism). I mean hell they basically had a scene in D4 where people are killing white Christian clergy. Just imagine if that priest looked like a rabbi...

Like you said WoW is a kike pysop that basically ruins lives from the same company.

Even a lot of the Eastern European companies are fucked now though or showed their true face. Example Kingdom Come Deliverance II, faggotry from a jewish CEO with pseudo historical jewish victim bullshit propaganda about progroms in a place jews didn't even have synagogues in.

So I don't blame him at all. He has 4 kids and doesn't want to set a bad example and if you had kids like him, their friends are obsessed with influencers and gaming culture atm. It's crazy how much pull they have with kids and I think they were prepped for it with attention span killing crap like cocomelon and tik tok, both of which had heavy jewish involvement in their creation. jews only turned on their tik tok golem when it exposed jews and now they have IDF woman censoring it in the West thanks to our shabbos goy government.

Honestly if my dad played vidya with me instead of guzzling beer and watching TV like a mindless NPC i would've respected far fucking more

vidya is a wholesome family friendly entertainment provided you don't play kiked vidya, again blame the [kikes] game not the medium

as for Danial Vavra he really was playing the long game with KCD, which honestly confused the fuck out of me because the first game was a basically a Christian nationalist game where the antagonists were called "goatfuckers" and you played as White Chrisitan bloke killing cumans and saving damsels in distress with no bullshit

the second game is a lot gayer, but overall? this year had FAR FUCKING WORSE vidya than KCD2

if you play KCD2 and stop the main-quest after you reach the second half the game, you're going to have a good time

if you do go through the main quest, you're not going to have a good time

also use based mods musa replacer which not only deniggerizes him but changes his dialogue using A.I which now makes him a southern Italian physician rather than some nigger sand nigger physician

unfortunately the pogrom quest is tied to the story so you can't fucking skip that because the devs were so jewish they jewishly designed this shit to be unavoidable and unskippable

my recommendation is to go through the jewish slums and kill every single fucking jew you find there, pay the fine, then pickpocket your gold back from the guard and then do the quest (and remember if you kill an NPC on hardcore, he's gone forever therefore the jewish pogrom will feature very little jews because you already killed them all ;)

> time well enjoyed isn't wasted

There is a strong argument to be made that, if you are actively enjoying yourself *while doing a thing,* you are not doing anything worth doing and thus your time is absolutely wasted. Caveat emptor for procreative fucking, as 'casual' fucking still fails this test.

I don't have time to make it, but generally it goes something like 'there is a cost to be paid for improvement (whether of yourself, your house, your skills, whatever)', and this cost is why the things worth doing are struggles. You remember the struggle fondly once it is over and are happy you went through it, but the actual process of doing the thing is painful. Examples: studying for anything, working out, learning skills, career climbing, maintaining relationships of important people (e.g. your parents), fixing things, making new things, raising anything very young, so on and so forth.

Type 2 vs type 1 fun - if the fun is type 1, you absolutely are wasting your life.

Its a recreational hobby. There are healthier hobbies, more social hobbies, and hobbies that build skills or inspire creativity. But its not an unhealthy hobby unless done in excess. The #1 complaint that girls, non-gamers, anti-vidya gurus and "recovering" gamers make against gaming is that it **wastes time**. But it's recreation, wasting time is the point of it.

Time is the only factor for me. We all play less as we get older but mainly because we are busy. We budget our time for what's important.

And the recreation time that we have left is filled with new hobbies. Men do this naturally, they call of a "mid life crisis," but in reality we just get bored. I took up golfing. Stupid sport I know lol don't judge me

This philosophy of "don't waste your time" is worthless when it comes to healthy recreation: when I *want* to spend my time doing something I enjoy more than I want to spend my time doing something productive. Of course too much lounging will make for a less fulfilling life, but no rec at all will make for a short, stressful one.

The second most common complaint against gaming that I hear is that the games today are no longer worth the time due to rushed money grabs and political injection ("wokeness"). I have the solution to this:

#1) Older games, like the thousands of golden-age PS2 and Wii games that you missed. They are free using emulators. Games that are only kinda old are now much better thanks to mods.

#2) Embrace the "problem" for what it is, the true solution to gaming that has been leading us into a new renaissance within the medium! Lemme explain...

There are more mediocre games today because games are so easy to make now. If your computer can handle it, Unreal Engine will hold your hand and make whatever game you can imagine (so long as you don't throw up from UE's disgusting default water shaders). Unity game engine, though woke, will hold your hand less than Unreal and won't make a 3060 explode but still gives a *make a game easily with no prior knowledge* experience. Godot, the open source game engine, is my favorite program in over a decade! I consider it yo be a game, as its been just as fun or more fun to make games than to play them. I've made a 3D platformer and am now playing with a horror / virtual pet / dinosaur shooter lol

I cannot exaggerate the freedom Godot gives. If you like sandbox games, I highly suggest it. Heck, even if you don't make anything with it, its still worth the download to play the free, editable games available in the asset tab.

TLDR: No, I like doing the things I like to do.

I'm the resident faggot gamer here and understand it's an easy scapegoat. I get it. It's unlikely your own personal epiphany will seriously perturb anyone.

> I didn't even game often, but it constantly occupied my headspace. I spent tons of cash on Nintendo and steam just to barely play game but look forward to them. Or I would play them and it would just feel like a huge time sync and not fun.

Sounds more like a mental disorder lol. I only think about gaming when I'm gaming. If something has me hooked I'll be thinking about strategies and builds during my normal work day...

I don't know. If it's not enjoyable for you anymore maybe it's time to let it go, as you say. Running through the echos of your former enjoyable routines without the actual enjoyment isn't a recipe for a good time.

> I'm 40 now with 4 kids.

Holy fuck my dude. How do you have the time?

> I decided to quit them all.

Sometimes a cold turkey approach works best.

> It's liberating not to try for achievements or set arbitrary time limits. I no longer spend mental energy seeing what slop is too woke And acceptable.

Huh. Guess I never really gave the industry that much real estate in my head. Don't get me wrong, the current state of the industry is complete ass and has fallen further and faster than anyone thought. I think a lot of people see more slop than gems because the market is so saturated.

The industry also isn't really ours anymore. It's been stolen by jewish DEI agendas, faggots and troons. Porn games too, are adding to the cesspit. So I understand your views here, but I've always felt perfectly stalwart against this particular abyss.

> I feel like this is something I should have done when I had my first kid years ago.

Probably. Kids should play sports. Physical sports. I played sports all the way through high school, but still also loved vidya.

Maybe I was just born at the right time. Gen X and millennial had one foot in analog and the other in digital. We breached the gap and could enjoy both separately for what they were. But it looks like we're about the same age, so to each their own.

> Everyone reading this under 40. Don't waste years like I did.

So you're telling me the overall experience was so bad that you'd recommend no one partake? What shit, garbage games were you playing? Don't you remember the awesome stories? *Metal Gear Solid, Soul Reaver, Resident Evil, Half Life?*

I know you remember some gaming sessions with the boys back in the day. I can remember calling my friends chinks and niggers all the way back in BF1942, and I'll never forget some of the sweaty nerd sessions when I was dueling it out with other clans.

Though I've moved on from all that now, at the end of the day I see gaming as art mixed with puzzles. It's not just thought provoking and stimulating, but interactive and experience generating.

It's just too bad its yet another industry taken over by the yidlings.

The Halo 2 & 3 lan-parties were the best, we threw N words, F words and R words whenever the possibility occured, we had fresh pizza (back when pizza was made with actual cheese and not soy and goy oil) and booze (which i opted out of, i was more of a orange juice mixed with vodka type of guy)

the middle teenage years were the best not just because of vidya, but because the culture was still Normal, where is today people barely socialize and if they do so its all online and there is no real human interaction

also all chat is moderated so you can't get into online bants with random online niggers

also back then consoles were powerful and you go could 4 way splitscreen with other buddies, and when combined with another xbox and 4 controller you had a real fucking party going

alas consoles are dead, and so is vidya, all of our friends have moved on and there is not much to remincinse... but whenever i hear Halo 3 main theme or warthog run i immediately remember the Legendary run we had on co-op campaign

escapism is for those who want to escape

you have 4 kids so you can't escape your responsibilities (technically you can, but that'd make you a nigger ;)

when i'll have kids (that's a big IF considering hoeflation) i'll probably gravitate less and less to vidya considering i'd have reponsibilities for my children and you can't play vidya while your kid is crying (that's gay as fuck and i've unironically watched a streamer scream to his wife that he's streaming and take the screaming baby away from him, which i consider genuine soy behavior)

though to be completely honest... a child's is a woman's responsability

a man's responsbility is to provide and protect (and maybe fix things) he shouldn't be the fucking babysitter or the cook or the cleaner

that's literally a woman's job and anyone who says otherwise is a domesticated cuck with no balls.

Generally I fully respect any intent to step away from gaming.

> I spent tons of cash on Nintendo and steam

But this sounds like a more specific problem. I spend as little money as possible on games, and I once I buy them, I play them for years. Or I return to them later on. It is utterly weird to me how people indulge in "microtransactions" for example.

> Or I would play them and it would just feel like a huge time sync and not fun.

That the cue to at least abandon said games.

> I just couldn't recreate the happy times.

You shouldn't do it for nostalgia reasons anyway. Just to occupy yourself in your free time. I've bought Deep Rock Galactic a few months ago when it was 66% off. It's a nice game, but there was no intent to "recreate" anything.

> I no longer spend mental energy seeing what slop is too woke And acceptable.

Don't go for "modern" games... also you don't need games to be multiplayer. PvP for example is a frustrating experience because it always leads to a 50% win-rate on average. There is no "I managed to finish the hardest difficulty", it is just goes on forever.

> It's a complete waste of time

But what else would you do with your time?

See, there is a phenomenon that higher intelligence requires more cognitive stimulation. That can be anything like reading books, playing games, curiosity, having something to expend productivity, creativity, writing, thinking. It means boredom affects you more severely - it can occur easier and feel more inconvenient. You may be able to compensate that better temporarily by being able to just look out the window and think about something, but that has limits.

Games are ONE way to create cognitive stimulation. The reason people play tedious or even boring games is because they still provide cognitive stimulation - aka *something* to do.

A good alternative is to do physical labor, like building tables and furniture. Or even building some structure. But if doing so only serves to occupy you, then gaming is a cheaper and easier alternative.

Congratulations on quitting.

Don't beat yourself up too hard. It seemed like it was just a hobby. An immature hobby. An expensive and mostly unproductive hobby.

But now you can just find a new hobby. A grown man hobby. Maybe you build stuff in your workshop, or fix things to make money on the side, etc Build a solar power array, or start a garden, or get some chickens and ducks, or get an old classic car/truck and restore it.

I never get into video games much. I like other hobbies like customizing guns, fixing appliances and tractors and equipment, modifying my truck, hiking/camping hunting, etc

With your kids you want EXPERIENCES and MEMORIES. Your kids are probably never going to reminisce sitting in front of a tv screen with dad playing video games. But they'd remember the first time dad took them hunting and they shot a buck ,or the time dad took you camping and you caught a rainbow trout, cleaned your first fish and cooked it over the camp fire. That will be a memory they remember and cherish. Not you being a boss in grant theft auto.

You hit on good points. The worst thing is, I'm a middle-aged millennial with no talent or skills of use. I was raised by Boomer parents that didn't do anything. Unfortunately, another topic I've been working on is how cheap video games are to other hobbies. Gaming is still relatively cheap compared to skiing lessons, places that require space. That's what is making it so hard. It's so easy to play video games with the kids instead of going to some exhibit for $100 for an hour or something. But I'll charge on.

How do you not have any talent or skill?

You just push buttons on a game pad?

Why would a Supreme White Community want you then? What do you contribute that is of any value to fellow man? You better figure something out. What do you do for a job? Menial mindless tasks that we could train pajeets or spics to do?

Fuck off, I'm so sick of these unreasonable demands that every man must be in the top 5% of success. Most men will never have a chance to have a decent paying job and gaining skills just for the sake of doing so is a waste of time and is excessively expensive.

You have to have determination and ambition. No one is going to take the time to hold your hand. You can learn useful skills on the Internet.

I never changed a fuel pump but watched YouTube and did it

I never changed the valve stem gaskets on engine but read how to do it

You not having any valuable skills is your own fault. Not mine. Not someone else's.

Also you being White isn't good enough. Why would other white people want you around if you can't do anything useful than play video games.

It's not an unreasonable demand that the supreme White men around you who do productive work every day want you to find something useful to contribute to fellow White man. Learn a trade or how to program your own video games or something. Any Cheeto chewing bong sucking idiot can play video games.

Most skills are useless if you can't get employed using them and deteriorate without use. Ability is worthless without credentials and connections so why even try cultivating it.

>I never changed a fuel pump but watched YouTube and did it I never changed the valve stem gaskets on engine but read how to do it.

That's not a skill, that's just following instructions for some basic labor, I have countless skills by that metric. Diagnosing and isolating the problem would be a skill, but the actual replacement of parts is usually more akin to unskilled labor as it's just a series of simple tasks which are mostly intuitive barring a step or two that's more complex.

 >You not having any valuable skills is your own fault. Not mine. Not someone else's.

Two men can have the same skill, but for one it's worthless and for the other it's the most valuable thing they have. What's the difference? Employment. Skills don't matter if they aren't used and having skill alone is worthless, nobody hires on skill alone.

I stopped playing games because I decided I wanted to spend that time building skills and hobbies I could pass on to my kids. Gaming is not one of those hobbies.

Having said that I do miss Civ 5

I think games like chess or San-chi or Go etc can help with mental acuity and clarity, so by that logic perhaps some video games could also stimulate similar parts of the brain. Games that force you to use predictive, multi-scenario logic, pattern recognition, etc.

But then again you could make the same case about candy crush so maybe not.

I haven't seen anyone say it but I didn't read everyone's post cause there was a lot but the problem I see with video games is that they are the ultimate surrogate activity. The kind of sentiment I'm seeing a lot of here is that everything is fucked and this is a way to squeeze some joy from the kiked world we live in... But the world is kiked because there aren't enough men with the drive to muster resistance to it. Hopefully that's changing but the games are where that drive went. It didn't just get bred out of us. They gave us shitty, mindless, repetitive jobs and then pushed games on us to simulate the feelings we used to get from acheiving goals in a hard fought but successful life. As men we have a natural drive to pursue accomplishment, success, victory. If it weren't for the games a lot more people would be a lot more discontent with their soul sucking realities and they'd be aiming their drive at destroying the people causing their lives to be this way. I don't say that to diminish them as an art form or whatever else you might think they are. They can be that too. I've had great bonding experiences playing them with my son and my friends. There are beautiful intricate worlds and stories I could have never experienced in another way. But they are circuses on a whole new level. They let you pretend to be a great person in a fictional world which prevents you from becoming one in the real world.

I don't play much vidya now. I spent about probably 10,000+ hours collectively on videogames from age 10 to 22. The only ganes I dont regret playing are Terraria (1200 hours all wirh friends) Minecraft (who knows but its a banger) Garrys mod (qnother 1200 hours or so, qll with friends) Halo custom games (untold hours) etc. Social games are much less damaging than single player games.

I haven't played much since. Playing some smash bros with my nieces and nephews on the N64 emulator their dad got. That to me is priceless.

contrarily I have been trying to get back in to gaming a bit lately

deconstruction

but I have been trying to "decontruct" it (?) to see what it is I am really looking for

mental puzzle-y games

Firstly I'd suggest you could still "game" but switch to "valuable" games like chess, which are good for your general mental abilities that can translate in to doing other things in life

physical coordination workouts

But that's just mental stimulation, there's also the physical eye-hand coordination aspect. I think choosing "any" game within reason that exercises this ability might be good to do periodically. Also alternatively or in combination, "any" activity within reason that exercises your physical abilities like this like practicing shooting hoops. Something that can also double as exercise; I think of these as also "background music" for thinking about more important things

artistic experience

another aspect of games is the experience of the sound, music, visuals, video, artwork. So instead you might listen to music, view pieces of artwork, read literature, things like that.

real world activity

another thing I've thought of is instead of like playing a hunting game, you can just go hunt or do some of the activities related to preparing to hunting or processing an animal after hunting.

gamification: making work more "game-like"

another approach has been to make certain chores or work more into a game. This hasn't worked for me necessarily but I see some other people enjoy it.

life as a "game"

and finally I was reading some game design books or articles that ultimately broke gaming down into being a kind of (maybe fun?) "problem solving". So I've been kind of instead of gaming, maybe "playing the game" of trying to identify and work on problems in life? It's maybe like a "gameful" way of looking at work or life? Or a shift from gaming to focusing on problem solving as a kind of alternative purposeful human activity?

playthroughs

I've also been surprised to notice that I kind of enjoy watching playthroughs and having them on in the background while I do other things. Mentally I can kind of see what a game is about and what it would be like if I played it, without having to buy it or put in the effort to beat the game. It kind of allows me to "play the game mentally". A lot of games are just solving puzzles and manual dexterity, so I could think for a bit how I might solve a puzzle and then just see the solution, or gauge if I could physically beat a game or not by watching others play.

board games and role-playing games

Some people are also unplugging with board games and roleplaying games. While video games sometimes get a bad rap, I hardly see as many people getting mad about people playing something like Monopoly, even though it might "waste the same amount of time". So there's something about physical board games that seem different that people are ok with at times. Roleplaying games I think can promote harmful themes although that's true of games in general; I'm not aware of D&D alternatives but I am aware of concerns people raise about D&D promoting magic and the occult. But anyway I have seen online people seem to play roleplaying games which seem to stimulate the imagination and act as a kind of "collaborative way to write a story" in a way. So those could be alternatives that scratch the itch in a more wholesome way? (Maybe for example like an electromechanical chessboard would be where I would go with a board game that's still mentally good for you?)

conclusion

Game industries are bigger than film and music combined currently. I do think there's a place for games and they should be ordered towards serving God and other people. Some moderate recreation is ok. A philosophy of games should probably be discussed and pinned down. Especially educational games (like about religious topics?) could be fun and beneficial, for example (like religious trivia?).

The Benedictine motto is "ora et labora" (prayer and work). Recreation does have a place in that vision, but also some have lived without it, and prayer is probably the kind of "recreation" they go to outside of work and other duties.

So I don't have an overall verdict on games, I think perhaps shorter games that manage some of the above thoughts I've shared will become more popular and appropriate as people's lives become busier.

> I'm not aware of D&D alternatives but I am aware of concerns people raise about D&D promoting magic and the occult.

Runequest, Traveller, Cyberpunk, Shadowrun, Pathfinder, West End Games' Star Wars, Call of Cathulu, GammaWorld, Warhammer Fantasy Roleplaying, Warhammer 40k roleplaying, the countless World/Chronicles of Darkness games, all of which have numerous editions with typically substantive changes and reworks(for a fun example of what I mean look through the core books for AD&D 2e, D&D 3.5e, and D&D 4e and you'll find three different games)

another comment, I think I have heard of GURPS, is that like a template from which you could just make whatever?

GURPS is an intentionally generic system which I have heard basically nothing good about but for which I also haven't heard too much that bad but it's stuck in the spot of there always being something better to use. For personal use I'd just modify a different system and for commercial use there are other systems out there that have cheaper and less restrictive licenses(which is where PbtA slop comes from)

What are you even interested in doing/playing? It's hard to point someone in a direction when discussing a topic so broadly.

> What are you even interested in doing/playing?

idk tbh I have just seen some threads on 4chan's /qa/ board a long time ago and it sounds like they make up a story and then roll a dice and decide what to do next.

So I don't know much else to do besides something of that formula of: set up story - stop at some point to roll dice - change whatever dice decides whether that's points or if it makes a decision

and with AI I might seed a story, it would say something and i'd respond with something and it would give options and I would either pick one or pick my own made up alternative choice, and rinse and repeat

haven't really tried this with groups of people but I imagine it's the same kind of thing but with just taking turns and one person is the moderator

Video games can be fun.
Some games are to this day still fun. For example, I can still enjoy another playthrough of bg2.

What you are experiencing is normal. You cant play shooters all tour life and get excited for yet another shooter. At some point your brain has seen enough variations of all the ways they combine mechanisms and then its over.

Your only chance is new experiences and hopefully a revolutionary game in your fav genre

Haven't played fire emblem or mario since the 3DS days when i was still a teenager (and now fire emblem is irredeemably gay)

It's not really a topic I'll go to war with someone over if they aren't overdoing it, but my personal stance is that *all* gaming is a hedonistic hobby, a concession you're making for pleasure. Again, not to be holier-than-thou about it, as we all do this in one way or another (in my case, sometimes I eat slop, or jack off.) But categorically, I believe it is warranted to define it as such rather than as something that is harmless or truly enriching.

The biggest reason I don't like it is because of how arbitrary it is, as you said. It's all fake bullshit that only exists in a digital reality marble, and doesn't translate to much real world value outside of peripheral things.

This is actually worse for things like fighting games or shooters, which require significant time investment to get good at. You'd be so much better off learning an instrument, a martial art, etc. Gaming is much closer to watching sportsball, and if you do "skilled" gaming, you're the guy who also plays fantasy football, commits all of "his" team's stats to memory, etc.

And I am biased speaking as a former gamer, late 20s now and haven't touched them since 21. I used to be extremely into competitive Smash Bros. for essentially my entire adolescence, was addicted to gachas (lost hundreds,) and then into my twenties I got *severely* addicted to League of Legends. For all of covid I basically played it from sunup to sundown, getting physically nauseous to the point of almost throwing up on multiple occasions due to continuously staring at a screen for so long.

I wish I had spent those years doing *literally anything else.* If I ever have children, I won't allow them to touch gaming unless it's through a social event where people boot up Mario Party or something.

Gaming isn't terrible in moderation.

I play with a couple buddies and do PvP against other dudes. We talk trash, say gg to other competitors, and shoot it out. Its a good outlet for me as I don't have a good outlet for competitive male team sports otherwise.

Gooming is a huge issue tho and it's easy to cross over the line where you lose yourself to it entirely and just waste away in front of a screen.

I have been told this a lot. And really it's true with most things. Cocain from Coco leaves is fine in moderation. I think that's more of the problem. Also, I guess couch co op is fine. I made constraints of only social gaming before. However, there's this switch that turns on like a valve. It doesn't drip, shall we say.
