Something similar is true of Madagascar. It was peopled by non-Africans. Of course the baizuo can't answer this question.

only a handful of sub-saharan african tribes even figured out canoes and similar small row-boats, not ocean faring vessels.

the only sub-saharan africans who ever had ocean faring sailing vessels prior to the 1800s were the red sea states, who literally copied them from caucasians of the middle east.
