I mean, imagine being told you and your friends and brothers would have to fight to possible death to prevent the enslavement of your descendants, and then slowly realising that was a lie, and they died for nothing? It breaks my heart. The older generation of British people is so unbelievably kind, and so earnest, and principled, and smartly dressed. When I see them, although I am the same (Scottish) I feel almost foreign to them, because I grew up in a different world, and I wonder if they feel lost, seeing all the promises of the future they fought for rotting in front of their eyes.
