There was also the fact that the reds enjoyed a larger share of eastern front veterans (veterans of failed wars are always the first to be attracted to political violence) vs the white army that recruited mainly out of untrained peasantry. Especially later on in the war after mutinies, defections, and surrenders, which the white army always had a bigger problem with (once again, sometimes the soldiers might hate their commanders more than they did the reds. Or vice versa)
