You do realize that God distributes his gifts unequally, right? Some may not be equipped for anything more than manual labor. Some may rather do manual labor, in spite of being orders of magnitude smarter than your room-temperature level.
He became a pope. You don't start out as one. He was very intelligent and hardworking. And took joy in the work. He had means and ability to do else, but still chose to do the hard work.

Matthew 25:29-30: For to everyone who has will more be given, and he will have an abundance. But from the one who has not, even what he has will be taken away. And cast the worthless servant into the outer darkness. In that place there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.
