>There was a lot of noise about whether or not Kirk survived the shooting, for several hours. The idea is that Netanyahu knew his kill team would succeed, and therefore accidentally "tipped his hand" by saying how sorry he was that he died hours before it was known for a fact that he was dead.

I think anyone that witnessed it or saw the video knew immediately he was dead. Even if he had been shot like that while on a surgical bed with a team of doctors waiting for him to be shot and ready to go, he wouldn't have had a chance.
