Something else I'm noticing is that there's been a bit of a purge in their left wing networks as a response to this event. So far both TMZ and MSNBC have fired people over their reaction to events and it's been less than a day.
I wonder if there is a realization that they've pushed the culture war (which was always a distraction from the OWS class war) too far and are risking actual civil war, which is what they were trying to avoid in the first place. In that case, expect a lot of quitting/firing on both sides of the media and their replacements being much more conciliatory ("these events require de-escalation" etc).
