The adventurous spirit of White explorers as they encounter strange lands and savage peoples. It really puts into perspective how different we are. Truth is stranger than fiction.

I like desert solitaire book because it's solemn and wild westy.

James Norman Hall's autobiography "My Island Paradise" is pretty good

I'd highly recommend Rudyard Kipling's "Kim"

The amount of times that early pioneers discovered large ships adrift with all of the life rafts secured... and all of the crew missing... is creepy.
