also to add, the ottoman empire generally castrated all male slaves. the entire point was exterminating bloodlines and reducing testosterone so they're less likely to fight back.

the practice of breeding slaves wasn't common until many centuries later when cultures started limiting or banning increasingly more forms of slavery, drastically reducing the slave stock.
